HOTELS WITH HEART
Saskatchewan Silver Birch Hotel’s Friends In Need program contributes over
$12,400 to the Canadian
Red Cross
Saskatchewan Silver Birch Hotel’s 9th annual Friends in Need holiday promotion
has raised over $12,400 for Canadian Red Cross Disaster Relief in 2008.
Running during the December holiday period, the annual Friends In Need promotion offered
travelers discounted room rates at the Regina Inn, the Saskatoon Inn and Radisson Saskatoon,
as well as at 23 other hotels across Canada with $10 from each night’s stay going to community
charities. The program was launched nationally in 2000 by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts and
runs at all hotels managed by the company. Dozens of charitable and community organizations
have benefited from over $820,000 raised over the past nine years.
“This is the fifth year in a row that the Regina Inn has directed the proceeds to the Canadian
Red Cross. We are thankful for the amazing support we receive”, says Richard Kies, Public Affairs & Development,
Canadian Red Cross. “This holiday season we responded to an unusually high number of fires
that devastated many families and severely depleted our local disaster response funds. The
donation from the Friends In Need community relations program is extremely
timely and will ensure we can continue to respond to local disasters like house and apartment
fires.”
The Friends in Need program is part of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts “Hotels
with Heart” initiative for giving back to its communities. “Our company is enjoying its success
in no small part due to the support of the communities where we own and manage hotels, and
this is one way that we can give support back to those communities,” says Robert Pratt, SilverBirch
Hotels & Resorts President “Since the program’s launch, SilverBirch associates have embraced Friends
in Need with enthusiasm, and have committed themselves to its success. The program
provides good value for our guests while raising money for local charities.”

Kindness Week
From coast to coast, hotels managed by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts organize a range
of local events for World Kindness Week. Some will host luncheons for associates in return
for winter coats to be donated to community shelters. Others will deliver food trays to veterans'
homes and local food banks, volunteering associate time to help out the less fortunate in their
communities or conducting random acts of kindness in the community. |
